Inkling: Overalls! Final

I actually did finish this on Friday, but didn't want to post it. Sadly, didn't come close to meeting his potential. Still, it was fun, and I learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. I had some neat cloud work done that I had to scratch out, but it was really competing with the antler things comin' off this guy's noggin. Live and learn. Good news? I have more on the way! Looky below!

Now here are two monocle-wearing gents that I'm excited about! I'm really proud of the Cthulhu idea. I don't know if I'll get to the inks on these this week- I have lots of work to do on art promised to others... and I have a holiday card I need to make! Priorities!! :)

"?" Inkling

Sketch and ink of my latest "ink-ling." Having fun. I'm actually starting to get behind this blog a bit! I actually think I'll start up a blog for my upcoming comic- which is ridiculously juvenile/adult/inappropriate.

Inks!

I realize that I've been horrible on updating... which is what everyone on the internet says, so who cares right? Here... let me post a few things now then, and give an empty promise of things to come.

Today's topic: Inks!

Progress on my creepy sword. Detail on the grip.

I've been trying a few things... playing around with the detail of the grip. I have something I will share as soon as I get a little more work done. For now, I don't have anymore time to work on this... I'm off on a two week trip out in the Western U.S. to visit family and friends, and take my daughter to college. :)

Sorry I haven't been updating. Here are some works in progress.

Feedback on this guy should make the final paint pretty much one of my favorite pieces.

Not too sure if I'll do more work on this, but I'm happy with some of the textures going on.

This is the piece I'm currently most excited to finish; a decorative grip and pommel.

I had recently finished an accordion sketchbook that I'd started 5 years ago... I had only 2 pages left to go to complete it. The idea was to make one long drawing: place the date of each drawing, and draw lines off the edges. It was a really fun exercise. The problem is, my last 2 pages kind of demolished the preceding ones, even though I really like the rest of them. I decided to pick up another accordion sketchbook that I'd made from a kit back then, and start another one that would be much more serious in terms of detail and thought, and to add even more fun/challenge, I decided to make this one vertical.
Here's the beginning of page #1 (drawn at Bohemian Cafe in Baltimore) started a few weeks ago.

...and after finding a few minutes/hours here and there, here's what I *think* is the final version of the first page: (finished just today during lunch)

For scale: I draw too small... that's my iPhone 4 behind the book, which I used for stability while I scanned it... it actually sticks out on either side of the book. Ha!
Next I really need to focus on a mock assignment from my awesome buddy Howard Lyon (see my links to the right).
